Associate professor (non-tenure track) or post-doctoral researcher in data analytics in industrial and engineering and management

The Department of Industrial Engineering and Management at the LUT School of Engineering Sciences is seeking an associate professor (non-tenure track) or post-doctoral researcher to join its evolving organisation.

Industrial engineering and management (IEM) is an integrative, solution-oriented discipline that addresses organisations and their networks as technological, economic and social systems with the objective to enable innovations, create value and advance businesses towards high efficiency, profitability and sustainability. LUT’s IEM research focuses innovation and technology management, logistics and supply chains, operations management, cost management and data analytics, performance management, entrepreneurship, and systems engineering. The Department of Industrial Engineering and Management is a strong research unit of 13 full professors and altogether 100 research and teaching staff members. The department operates on the Lappeenranta and Lahti campuses and in the Kouvola regional unit. The vacant position will be located in Lappeenranta.

The final job title will depend on the candidate’s qualifications. The duties include both research and education in a range of contact and remote teaching environments. 

The position emphasises teaching. The selected candidate will teach on several courses in the department’s bachelor’s and/or master’s programs. The research focuses on the main research areas of the department, especially analytics oriented in the areas of business ecosystems, industrial asset management and cost management. Teaching duties relate to subjects such as data analytics, AI and/or robotic process automation, including tools e.g. SAS-JMP, Excel, Power BI, ERP(SAP) and UiPath or similar. Additionally, the appointed candidate will supervise bachelor’s and/or master’s theses. 

Successful performance requires good English skills and the ability to teach in English or in Finnish.

Associate professor (non-tenure track)

A non-tenure track associate professor is required to have a doctoral degree, the pedagogical competences and teaching skills necessary for the position, proof of high-level research work and publications, and the ability to lead a research group and raise research funding. The employment relationship is fixed-term for four years.

Post-doctoral researcher

A post-doctoral researcher is required to have a doctoral degree, the ability for independent scientific work, and teaching skills needed in the performance of the duties. Additionally, pedagogical competences or readiness to complete pedagogical training is expected. The position will start with a one-year term that can be extended by three years, provided that the research has progressed as planned in the project.

Employment relationship and pay

The salary is based on the current collective agreement for Finnish universities. The annual salary range of non-tenure track associate professors is approximately 57 500–66 300 euros, and that of post-doctoral researchers is approximately 49 300–57 500 euros, depending on qualifications and experience.

The position will be filled according to the university's non-tenure career track. The work will start with a six-month trial period in September 2024, but the start date is negotiable. The position is based in Lappeenranta, but travel to LUT's Lahti campus will be expected.
